The Client-Vendor Relationship: It’s funny how things never change
Yep, we’re all laughing because we can relate…but let’s face it, we’ve all been there and it’s quite sad. I could say something smart, provide some advice, etc. But I have a feeling it would be in vain. Tell me, why are these games still being played? And when will they come to an end?

This was so funny. I’ve actually been working with two guys setting up a new business. They would like me to write a press release and make a presentation for them, but they have no money. So they keep talking to me, and I keep talking to them, but unless they come up with some cash, I’m not doing the work. They also have no clients because no one knows they exist.
A lot of this “bargaining” is being encouraged in articles I’ve read in newspapers and magazines. The attitude is that the economy is bad, so everything is negotiable. Well, it’s not.

I don’t get it.
LMAO someone sent me this last week…. it is soon to be a classic. Shame that such a universal theme actually exists in our world so much that a person could make a video that so perfectly captures it.

Thanks for sharing Beth.
If I didn’t work on the biz dev side of the equation for a vendor I’d think this was hilarious. But it’s more funny peculiar, than it is funny ha-ha.
Too many clients with champagne taste and beer money. Too many clients who have no regard for your time and effort. Too many clients that expect you to take on the chin with the lure of future projects. Too many clients who expect you to subsidize out of pocket hard costs before being paid.

Nice. This would drive me nuts. I work with the public as an usher when I am looking for full time work and I would go nuts if that happened to me. I am a patient person.

Ouch!
You can’t blame them for trying. Recession is recession.
As a startup I am doing quite a few barter deals. That seems like a good solution for me.
However, many potential clients tell me “we are ’sitting tight’ for a year or so before we invest in new marketing or online public relations.” That’s the logic I don’t get. Sleep your way out of recession? Good luck!
